So STUPID !

I am kicking myself.....over and over again!

Cleaning up my blog, deleting posts with big photos etc....very pleased with myself! Then it dawns on me, copy and paste the kiddie funny ones to a word document to keep (and print) for them...

Great idea Hosky! But wait, you just deleted some FOREVER!

OK start from this moment then!

So - for the last almost 8 years I have said I should be keeping a 'fun' diary for the kids - we do actually have lots of 'fun' moments, its just some time the 'bad' and 'dangerous' moments take over!. I also have a couple of thousand (yes bloggers I reckon there are 2000) digital photos floating around on the PC, memory cards and multiple cameras.

All this is wonderful, a lovely legacy for the kids! But wait....what to do with all the hours of almost extinct technology video footage.......

It is a tricky business keeping up with digital photo storage problems.
After I have put them on my blog, or printed them for my scrapbook, I dump them onto a CD and store them in a CD album then you never lose them.
Video footage, BB has converted into DVD's. (But what happens when DVD's are obsolete??)

Hi, thanks for stopping by my blog. sure sounds hot where you are.
How frustrating to have deleted those files. I agree with Diane. Put them on some CDs. I am sure there will always be a way of getting hold of something that will play them, and if not, then when the next great technology comes along they could be transferred before it is too late.

what a good idea to keep them for the kids to look back on. i agree, it's so hard to keep track of digital photos. my computer is an absolute mess. i keep them all on an external hard drive. there are thousands of them and i know i've duplicated many.

Kim,

Consider yourslef lucky at 2000 images. I just checked mine and it currently stands at 13,028. And that's not including the ones I deleted and put on CD before we moved.....

Our CD/DVD burner has carked it, but I found I was using USB sticks anyway to store stuff. They are quite cheap and quick to use. From Uni to the Newspapers, all they wanted from me was a USB stick of stuff.

Glad you're here - Bigblog was so incestuous.

41C tomorrow - time for many many mango cocktails....

I think an external hard drive or those USB sticks are the way to go. I worry about CDs deteriorating over time. Remember floppy diks? Can't even find a floppy drive these days.

I just threw out my entire music cassette collection, about 300 gems I guess from the 70's 80's and 90's. It was hard, but even if I did have a cassette player to play them they were so old, dirty or stretched it sounded like crap (probably was anyway!).
